This Jetserver web hosting guide will teach you how to use Filezilla to connect FTP to your hosting server. The Filezilla software can be downloaded from Filezilla or the link – click here. Filezilla is a free, open source FTP client designed for both client and server side. The software site provides extensive documentation and a user forum. Download the software and install it on your computer – note that you downloaded the software version that is right for you (win 32/64, Mac Linux).
Before using Filezilla, you must create an FTP account – click here for the guide, or use the cpanel account information you received after signing up for the Jetserver web hosting service.
FTP Connection Using Configuration File
Once we have created an FTP account on the hosting server, we will download the Filezilla configuration file (XML file):
Run Filezilla software, click File, and then click Import:
The pane will allow us to select the Filezilla configuration file, click Open:
We confirm by clicking OK that the configuration file will be imported into the Filezilla Site Manager:
When the successful import is complete, press OK:
Now click File and then Site Manager:
Under My Sites in the left column of the panel, we can see the FTP account we imported using the Filezilla configuration file:
- In the Encryption row: Select the only use plain FTP option. Note – Filezilla defaults to Encryption, which can prevent the FTP connection to the server and is therefore chosen as Plain FTP.
- In the Logon Type row: select the Normal option.
- In the Password line: enter the FTP password.
- Click Connect.
Please note: If you do not want to use the Filezilla configuration file, you can enter all the FTP information manually after clicking the New Site button.
After clicking Connect, we can see that we are connected to the FTP server:
Note: Although Filezilla has a “Quickconnect” option, it is not recommended because it uses a secure TLS connection that may prevent the FTP connection to the server. It also uses random ports that are blocked on the server at the firewall level.
